Chafing! A serious runner’s issue! But there’s a cure! Full Review of Red11Sport

As I pointed out in another review about chafing, it is a serious issue – at least for me it is! What is chafing? Chafing is a skin irritation caused by repeated rubbing. Chafing usually occurs around the groin, underarms and nipples, but it can occur anywhere. Anybody can experience chafing. However, chafing is particular problem in overweight people and in athleteshttp://tinyurl.com/kg39bkd. The constant rubbing of my shirts and shorts cause the areas of my nipples, groin, thighs, and but area to get irritated, and irritated bad. Lots of times the chafing caused me to stop running. While living in Seattle last year I was running a half marathon in the typical spring weather – rain! The combination of my clothing, running, and wetness was not a good mix. The chafing that took place was so serve that is caused me to DNF. Over the years I’ve tried everything from Vaseline to well-known sports balms. However, what I found is that they didn’t work or they worked for a limited time, and most times they stained my shirts and shorts. That is, until I found Red11sport!

What’s Red11sport?

Red11sport is a new comer to the sports balm (anti –chafe) category. The company is based out of New York City (my home town) and their mission is to rid athletes of “bloody nipples”. The product is made up of all-natural ingredients and comes is an easy-to-carry tin can. This tin can is small enough to carry with you while on a long run or hike, which I like!

Ingredients(what’s inside)

  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) – Skin-Conditioning Agent
  • Ozokerite – Binder
  • Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) – Antioxidant; Skin-Conditioning Agent
  • Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) – Fragrance Ingredient, Skin-Conditioning Agent
  • Menthol Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Soothing Skin-Conditioning Agent

These ingredients allow the body to naturally absorb the balm without any harmful side effects. The balm is absorbed through the skin, there by making the skin soft and slick so that friction of the rubbing of a shirt or shorts are dramatically decreased due to the slight sheen left by Red11sport balm, hence no more chaffing.

Likes

  • Ingredients –I love that fact that Red11sport is ALL NATURAL and the body can absorb without any side effects.
  • Smell – The smell of the balm is clean with a coconut smell.
  • Tin can – I love that I can carry this balm while on my long runs, the size of the can fits in my Nathan’s running pouch along with my IPhone with no trouble.
  • Application – The balm is easy to put on and leaves your skin with no stickiness as you have with other “like” brands.

Dislikes

  • The balm has a gritty feeling to it when touch, but soon goes away when the balm is applied to the skin.
  • Applicator – As with my other balm review, unlike that one which is a cream Red11sport is a solid balm. Although I like to tin-can it has its limitations which such areas as the groin. I’d like to see Red11sport come out with stick option so that those “private” areas can be applied. I hope in the future that Red11sport comes out with a stick that way it the balm can be used in other than the nipple area.

Conclusion

  • Overall I’m happy with Red11sport and I would recommend it as a chafing go-to for the nipple area.
