Running Pouch Review

As an exercise enthusiast I always have a dilemma, how do I bring my phone, keys, money, and ID? Since I usually like to run, bike, and workout with apps like runkeeper I usually choose to bring my phone only. That always leaves me with another dilemma leaving my keys, money, credit card, and ID. I like to run with some extra cash and/or credit card due to not knowing if I would ever need it, especially on my long runs when I sometimes run out of water or fueling. I like to have my ID with me, because, you never know what life has for you and I want to make sure that I have my ID in those times that someone may need it. The issue I found is that most exercise carriers only fit your phone and don’t leave much room for money, credit card, ID, and forget about carrying your keys. I always found that arm bands were to limiting in what you can carry, and restricted my arm swing. When I found therunningbuddy running pouch I was SUPER excited to see a carrier that would fit all the items I want to run with, yet was small, secure enough to meet the demands of exercise regiment.

Who is the Running Buddy?

The running buddy was birthed out of a frustration that runners, bikers, hikers, etc…want to carry more than one energy gel, and be belt free. After nearly 2 years and hundreds of miles and many, many prototypes a perfect lightweight belt free design was created. The various designs are meant to be “one size fits all”.

The Running Pouch

First off, I have to say that the pouch is very comfortable, though when I first received it I thought it was a bit bulky without anything in it. After packing a whopping iPhone, key, money, credit card, and my ID in the pouch – and had some extra room – it was very bulky. Surprising enough the pouch stayed pretty secure with all these items in it. I found that the magnets that ran along the back flap are very powerful and secured the pouch to my person (on my shorts). There were a few times that I wore thick shorts and the magnets had issues keeping secure, but with some minor adjustments, I was able to get the get the pouch to secure to even my thick shorts.
The pouch is made up of a combination of a mesh like material on the outer pouch sleeve and a “water/sweat resistant” material for the rest of the pouch. The pouch‘s flap and inside sleeve secure with Velcro. The design is good,; however, I’d like to see therunningbuddy make some modifications. I believe that the Velcro on the outside flap over time will lose it’s “stickiness” I’d like to see them incorporate a more secure fit, maybe use a magnet? They could also add a zipper on the back flap to allow you to hold money or ID thereby giving the inside of the pouch a bit more room. One of the most disappointing things in the design of the pouch I received is the lack of reflective material. For the color scheme they could have added reflective material, or in the least add reflective threading.
