Lumo Run The Run Coach
By Ryan Light, Running/Anxiety Coach
Lumo Run – Being a run coach it’s always important to me to analyze data. This data tells me how you are running? Efficient? Effective? And in such a way that we won’t cause injury. There are a number of devices on the market that can provide me this type of data, such as Polar, Garmin, and Fitbit. However, these devices lack real time data that allows individuals to adjust real time. And of course I would love to run with all of my clients, but my wife would not be too happy with me never being home, and body I don’t could handle it. Luckily I found a new device that acts like a real time running coach. Meet the Lumo Run the device that analyses your running metrics real time and provide you real time adjustments to help your running form – just like having a run coach.
Who is Lumo Run?
Birthed out of Silicon Valley, Lumo Body Tech was started by Monisha Perkash and Dr. Charles Wang their goal was to, “unlock the body’s full potential and improve human movement”. They did this by first creating in 2011 the Lumo Lift, which was an activity tracker and help analyze an individual’s posture. The device signals you if your posture is off and needs to be corrected. After the successful launch of this product they developed the Lumo Run, which as noted is a sensor which measures and coaches you on running form.
What is Lumo Run?
Lumo Run is a small thumbed sized sensor which is worn on your running shorts/pants just below the small of your back. The clip faces your body as the actual device faces out. I found that the clip is sometimes hard to clip on, found that I had to slide the device on, rather than clip it on. There were a number of times that the device did ride up and almost fell off of my shorts. However, overall it is a nice a snug fit. I’d like to see the clip a bit thinner as it sits on your skin you could see some skin irritation.
To charge the device, there is a removable cap, which hides a microUSB charging port. I found that the device took about 10 to 15 mins to charge and lasted about five 1 hr runs. Keep in mind that I didn’t charge the device in between my runs so the unit lasted a long time on a single charge.
OK…now on to the fun stuff!
Lumo Run how it works
Use of Lumo Run is easy! You don’t need special clothing or special attachments for this device. Just wear your clothes which you use for running. I found that sliding (not clipping) the device, keeps it secure and snug. Pair the device to your Lumo Run app, and start your run. Once on your run your device will send real time metrics on your form to your app. Based on your form the app will provide you guidance through a Siri like voice over your phone. Once you make these adjustments the app will notify you to stay in this zone. If your form starts to breakdown the app will notify you again, and guide you through what actions need to take place to fix your form.

I think a run coach would be sweet. I’ve honestly thought about signing up with a running coach to help me be more accountable. I think lumo run would be awesome too to help with my sometimes not so great running form.
Well if you don’t win and still need a coach, ping me 🙂
I’d love one of these! New to running and feel disadvantaged never having run in school or with a coach.
Trying to get to a 2hr half
I do need a coach, I have fallen out of love with running and just cannot get motivated to get back at it.I know I can be a strong runner again, just need someone to guide me.
I need a coach to push me sometimes. I know I could do a little better with a push…
I’m in the military so I’m no novice to running regularly. But running with a plan for long distance races, that’s what I still need to figure it out.
I’d love to have a coach so I can continue to improve! Over the last 2 years of running I’ve cut 3 minutes off my mile pace, but I’d like to know more about how I can improve!
As a newbie runner again, (I have done the C210K program multiple times and gave up halfway through) a running coach would be amazing to have and to see and push me.
Yes, this would be great! I run on my own all the time so sometimes I need a little encouragement, or someone to push me!
I have been eying this for a bit now.
I am intrigued! I would love to try this out for the posture aspects, and compare the other to my Garmin data. Do I need a coach? I am a coach…but that’s why I could use one even more. It’s always hard to follow our own advice. 😉
