Breaking Out of the Mold: How to Make Your Workout More Effective

It is a challenge to stay fit in this day and age with the mass amount of processed foods and sedentary lifestyles the majority of us lead. You have to go out of your way to get in shape and stay there, but it is definitely possible with some simple rules and discipline.

Drink enough water

It is common knowledge that water is essential for your body to function. A person can live close to a month without food, but won’t last a week without water. Without water, your body will begin to shut down and you will experience all kinds of health problems, starting with dehydration.

The amount of water that you should drink in a day is probably a lot more than you realize. It isn’t just 8 glasses every day, you should actually be drinking half your bodyweight in ounces. For instance, if you weigh 200 pounds, you should be drinking 100 ounces of water every day. That seems like a lot, especially if you are not used to drinking a lot of water, but you can start small and work your way up.

It’s really easy to grab something else to drink when you are thirsty, such as juice or another cup of coffee. While these may taste better, they also have extra calories and sugar. You shouldn’t rely on these, since the calories and sugar can add up so quickly and end up leading to weight gain instead of weight loss. Drinking enough water can lead to weight loss, better skin, and help your kidney functions increase.

Eat enough protein and carbs

Many people don’t get enough protein or carbs in their diet, but both can be good for you if consumed correctly Protein is required for building muscles during cardio and strength training, and despite the popularity of the low-carb diet, carbs are your body’s main source of energy. Try eating lean meats and nuts to get your protein and more natural carbs, like bananas, instead of refined carbs, like pasta.

Dietary supplements

The majority of Americans take dietary supplements either every day or occasionally. These can help substitute essential nutrients that are missing in your diet or aid in maximizing the effectiveness of a workout. Energy drinks and bars are popular supplements for people trying to stay in shape and usually include vitamins D and E, calcium, and iron. It is still important for you to eat a healthy diet because dietary supplements are not meant to be a complete substitute.

There are also certain health risks with taking these that could affect your birth control or blood flow. It is always best to speak to your healthcare provider and doing some research of your own before starting a dietary supplement. Consider researching retailers like Xyngular to find a business you feel comfortable about when you are on the hunt for the best supplement to use.

Compound Exercises

Many popular exercises, like the bicep curl, isolate your muscles. If you want to make the most out of your workout, try incorporating exercises that work multiple muscle groups at once. These exercises work your muscles as they would in the real world, and with just a few exercises you could get in a full body workout. Try adding squats, deadlifts, lunges, and pushups to your workout routine to make it more effective.

Cardio

Cardio is based on endurance; while at first it will be hard and you might feel like you can’t breathe, it will get easier over time. Pick a cardio exercise you will enjoy so that you don’t drop it after day four. You can go running, swimming, biking, hiking, canoeing, or even just walking. If it is outdoors you get the added benefit of vitamin D from the sun. If classes are more your style, try Zumba or a martial arts class.

As a health conscious individual, you are already on the right track. Consistently providing your body with enough water, the correct foods, and the best exercises, you can easily make the most out of your workout to get in shape and stay there.
